Born 1644 in Rouen, died 1717 in Paris. He was a member of an artistic family from Rouen: his father Laurent was a sculptor, as was his brother Noël IV, while three other brothers, Jacques, Noël III and François were painters. Jean Jouvenet was a pupil of Charles Lebrun at the Académie Royale. He is one of the main representatives of French Classicism. A considerable number of his paintings, most of which have a religious content, have survived.
