Dear Friends of the National Gallery of Slovenia and the Slovene Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra,
The program of the Harmony of the Spheres is stretched between the 17th/18th centuries, the time of the emergence of the orchestra, and our present time in which ever new compositions for orchestra are being born. We shall caper our anniversary season with four new compositions composed for our orchestra. The introductory concert is dedicated to Croatian contemporary music. Our orchestra has already played the Forgotten Music by Dubravko Detoni and Samba da Camera by Ivo Josipović in Slovenia and abroad. This time we shall add them to the new pieces by Berislav Šipuš for cello and strings and by Ivo Josipović for string orchestra. We shall inaugurate the Christmas season with the most beautiful pieces of music for oboe. The Benedetto Marcello and Domenico Cimarosa concerts are the favorite compositions for oboe. They will be joined by the music of other masters of the Baroque period. Music life in Hamburg was marked by Georg Friedrich Händel and his friends Johann Mattheson and Georg Philipp Telemann. Handel wrote his first operas in that city, Telemann reached the hiatus of his career, while Mattheson made his name as a theoretician and a diplomat. All three of them wrote music for viola da gamba as a solo instrument. Antonio Vivaldi decisively influenced the world of music with his series L’estro armonico (harmonic inspiration) in 1711. His three move Baroque solo concerto was immediately adopted and upgraded to a classical concerto. On the 300th anniversary of this music collection we shall present a selection of concertos for solo, two and four violins. We shall cap the season with contemporary Slovene music again. Two new pieces by Nenad Firšt for string orchestra and Concerto for Horn and Strings by Slavko Šuklar will be followed by Lucijan Marija Škrjanc’s Suite in the Old Style for string quartet and orchestra in which the composer adopted the form of concerto grosso and Baroque composition. Our guests will be renowned Slovene and foreign soloists Andrej Petrač, cello, solo oboist of the Berlin Philharmonic Jonathan Kelly, Domen Marinčič, viola da gamba, violinist Primož Novšak and solo hornist of the Berlin Philharmonic Stefan Dohr.
The lecturers for this season are Miroslav Gašparović, Director of the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb, Professors at the Fine Arts Department, University of Ljubljana, Stanko Kokole and Matej Klemenčič, Jure Mikuž, Professor at the Academy of Arts and Design in Ljubljana, and Andrej Smrekar, Senior Curator of the National Gallery of Slovenia.
